With the coming of the full Moon my mind started wandering over many topics but kept coming back to the same question.
What does the full Moon actually mean to pagans?
I know a lot of groups meet on or nearest weekend to the full Moon, but the question is why? Is it a tradition that is followed because that's how it was taught to them? Is it to harness the power of the Moon? Or is it just because its a handy way to keep track of time?
Many would say the second, but is that really the case? Are people actually doing it or are they going through the motions? Has, for example, drawing down the Moon simply become what people do or does it really have meaning?
It sounds elitist but I'm of the opinion that for most people the answer is no.
We all have off days where you don't give a rite your all but many I've met in my travels are like that most of the time! Its sad to see people who know what to do but have now idea why they are doing it. To me why is far more important, else you are just doing rituals by numbers - nothin really comes out of them.
So next full Moon go out and give it your all! Do it for a reason! Don't do it just because the book says so. Find the meaning in what you do, else why bother?
